Emerging Play :)
Many people with Autism, regardless of what the severity is, struggle with social interaction. They either come off as the weird kid, the quiet one, or the kid that is super rude that no one wants to be around. I wasn't sure where Owen fit in, he kept to himself, but he likes to watch how kids play, which we always thought was interesting.
When we met with Bethesda and Brick By Brick, they wanted to know if Owen was involved in a daycare setting, which at that time he wasn't. He was at home, with one of his parents or his grandparents, and his siblings. We wanted to emerge his social skills as well as communication, so we started investigating preschools ran by the region in our area. We were picky, we wanted one perfect for Owen, not too strict but structured. We wanted people who are familiar with children with Autism, so this experience will help him gain in life, not be frustrated.
Since attending Kids Kastle, and having sessions at therapy with other children, Owen has done wonderful in playing with other children, and even initiating play with children, especially his sister.
I could not be happier with the progress he is making socially, he still has a way to go, but what a change from a year ago!
